10 Video Games That Were Outdated Before They Launched
7. Godfall
In pure corporate game think, Godfall makes perfect sense. You can easily see a board room of number-crunchers analysing trends, only to drag and drop "Dark Souls" with "loot grind" into the same column and break for lunch.
Honestly, Godfall doesn't look terrible, it just looks stale. Everybody watching the footage knows exactly how it's going to play; exactly how much time you'll have to put in, how tedious loot grinds will be, and how bosses will be based around hitting with higher damage numbers, rather than requiring skill.
As we go into the next generation and so many companies have moved on from loot grinds - a byproduct of loot boxes being the go-to way to monetise anything - Godfall finds itself releasing to an audience that simply doesn't respond to this structure anymore.
