10 Video Games That Were Pulled From Digital Store Shelves (And Why)

Anyone with a pair of eyes and a brain could tell that Gearbox's online hero shooter, Battleborn, was doomed to fail from the outset, and that's exactly what happened.

In the first few months after the game launched, dwindling player counts, a general lack of interest within gaming circles, and fierce competition from Blizzard's Overwatch all combined to sign its death warrant, and at the end of 2019, 2K Games finally hammered that last, inevitable nail into Battleborn's coffin.

In an official announcement, the publisher informed players that the game had been removed from digital storefronts, that its servers would be switched off in January 2021, and that premium currency would soon be unavailable to purchase.

Players who already own a copy of the game will be able to continue grinding until that shutdown in January 2021, but for newbies looking to jump into Battleborn to see what it's all about - yes, all two of you - you're out of luck.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
