10 Video Games That Were Too Damn Short

Blair Witch Project Game

Like a lot of Bloober Team games, 2019's Blair Witch has some great ideas that are weakened by clumsy execution. There is a great story at the heart of the release, about a troubled former military man venturing into the Burkittsville woods to look for a lost child, as well as some flourishes in how it's presented, but ultimately the experience doesn't come together as a cohesive whole.

The disparate elements all work, but the way the story is told feels way too rushed. The main antagonist, Carver, goes from being a shady, mysterious figure in the shadows to just being there, talking to you and explaining his motives in the space of a single level, while the climax comes out of nowhere to wrap everything up only a few levels after some of the biggest plot points are introduced.

The real issue is that the horror doesn't really have the chance to breathe either. The game seems like it's in a hurry to get to its (admittedly awesome) climax that finally fulfils the dream of a true Blair Witch video game experience, and as a result a lot of the previous gameplay comes across like padding.

The tie-in would have benefitted from being either two hours or eight hours long, but instead it lies somewhere in the middle; too short to deliver on all of its ideas, but too long to be considered a cool little experiment.
