10 Video Games That Will Consume Your Life

5. Mass Effect Series

Spanning across three excellent games (and one mediocre spin-off) the Mass Effect series has courted die-hard followers from the very beginning. It's rich narrative, exciting gameplay and well-defined characters have made it a firm favourite amongst both RPG fans and lovers of all things science-fiction.

Taking on the reigns as Commander Shepard, you must lead an elite team of both human and extraterrestrial soldiers into battle against an alien force known as The Reapers. This mission will send you to a vast array of planets, with a large roster of missions to tackle.

When you're not travelling through the farthest reaches of space, or battling some unknown lifeforms however, you'll be spending time with your crew. Talking, bonding and maybe even indulging in the horizontal monster-mash if you're lucky.

The affection you feel for those aboard your space-station gives the series a real emotional pull that keeps you invested until the very end. If you play these games sequentially (and we'd recommend you do), then your choices, bonds and actions in previous games help to shape the wider narrative.

Few other RPG games feel as deep and rewarding as Mass Effect, making it one of the most engrossing experiences we've ever played.
