Remember when Fallout 76 didn't utterly destroy a beloved franchise/studio? Back in the day when you could lock your door and play alone to your heart's content without ever running the risk of encountering another person?

Fallout 4 took the concept of open-ended gameplay and gave it all the tools it needed to allow gamers to live vicariously in a post-apocalyptic world that would vaguely mould based on their influence.

Happily, players could invest 100+ hours without progressing much further than the first three or four story missions too so there's not even any pressure to do as you're told.

Instead, you can live your own life collecting bottle caps, dodging mutants and keeping those gosh darn synths in line if you absolutely have to.

Never has a video game given players the chance to be so British and experience the apocalypse at the same time.
