10 Video Games With Utterly Pointless Multiplayer Modes You Ignored

9. Condemned 2: Bloodshot

The Condemned series holds a special place in many gamers€™ hearts, despite never having a massive marketing campaign or enjoying huge success in the charts. This cult following largely came about because of the unique gameplay mechanics combined with the psychological horror elements that litter the campaign. The sequel wasn€™t as well received as its predecessor in some quarters due to the focus being on action rather than horror; but it still managed to include the combat from the first game that was so innovative. Improvising a variety of weapons from the environment to attack enemies up close and person was perhaps the biggest draw of Condemned and was perfectly suited to the dark and narrow setting in which the game took place. The incredibly smart A.I. also set a mighty challenge as they could hide or run away, leaving you to think on your feet at all times. That slow and methodical pacing along with quick improvisation isn€™t something that can be easily translated to multiplayer, where players generally want matches to be faster paced and more full of action. Even worse was the fact that the multiplayer was poorly designed and added just to tick a box on a marketing executives list of features. It was the ultimate in unnecessary fluff. The fact that it lagged constantly, bore little resemblance to the gameplay from the campaign and just plain stank meant that pretty much everybody skipped the multiplayer altogether. If you€™d played the first game you wouldn€™t be interested in playing online anyway, you just wanted to get back into what made it great - the story.
