10 Video Games We Love BECAUSE They're Fun Trash

It’s arguable that the SNES/MegaDrive era was the king for platformers, but right up until the 6th generation, the licensed platformer (sometimes an action/shooter-platformer hybrid) ran rampant, and often they were far better than they had any right being.

From Disney’s stellar efforts such as the MegaDrive’s Aladdin and The Lion King right through to far more dubious entries like Nickelodeon’s El Tigre or UDS’ Futurama for PS2, there was a licensed game for pretty much every franchise ever conceived, and no matter how guff they were, we ate them right up.

How could I not love getting to play as He-Man in Masters of the Universe, or... er... not Wile E Coyote, in Sheep, Dog and Wolf?

Therein lies the eternal struggle of the licensed game.

We know it doesn’t need to be particularly good to warrant a purchase or a playthrough - people will buy the game because they want to visit their favourite cartoon, movie or literature worlds. Just getting to play an iconic hero is worth any amount of generic platformer design.

God knows who 7up: Cool Spot was for, though.
