10 Video Games You Weren’t Expecting To Make You Cry
2. Final Fantasy VII
To be fair, Final Fantasy is full of emotional moments (the opera scene from Final Fantasy VI still chokes fans up to this day) but with the shift into 3D, the series opened itself up for newcomers who may have never heard of Square's masterpieces before. Still, new and old fans alike were still stunned by Final Fantasy VII's most dramatic, shocking moment. Cloud's feelings for Aerith are touched upon occasionally by the game but the woes of their relationship are brought to the forefront at the end of Disc 1. Aerith disappears, following the events that unfold in the Temple Of The Ancients, and the rest of the group journey to the Forgotten Capital to find her. Finally, the group find her praying in the center of the city, moments before Sephiroth descends from the ceiling and stabs her through the chest with his sword. The scene comes from out of nowhere and it's deeply shocking. Aerith had been a playable character for the past twenty or so hours; for her to suddenly be wiped out and gone in such a sudden fashion is a real stunner. Emotions really flare when Cloud cradles her lifeless body in his arms and delivers a great line on the tragedy of death - "Aerith will no longer talk, no longer laugh, cry or get angry." The reality of this scene suddenly sets in and it's hard not to get choked up. Often regarded as one of the finest moments in video game history, Aerith's death scene is incredibly well done and the emotional distress it caused in fans is something that many will never forget.
I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
