10 Video Games Where You NEVER Fight The Main Villain
7. Venat - Final Fantasy XII
After a street urchin called Vaan breaks into the Dalmascan palace, he gets caught up in a plot to hunt magical crystals alongside sky pirates (as you do). Since we all know how quickly a Final Fantasy plot escalates, it isn't long before Vaan is caught in a magical war with Dynast-King Vayne, who's been manipulated by an ancient entity called Venat to reshape humanity.
Even though Vayne is a titan in the political world, he's but a pawn to Venat. After the power-hungry regent has served his purpose, you assume Venat will cast him aside.
Instead, Venat endows Vayne with all of its power in the final confrontation, transforming him into a godlike being. Although Vayne is fuelled by Venat, Vaan never battles this inter-dimensional being directly.
When you defeat Vayne, you'd think the is the moment where Venat discards its lackey and takes Vaan on itself.
Instead, Venat gives Vayne more power, forcing you duke it out with the wicked monarch once more.
But the big question is - why? Considering Venat has been responsible for all of Vayne's actions in the story, it's odd how the nebulous deity passes its magical abilities onto its minion, and sits out the last battle entirely.
