10 Video Games With Absolutely USELESS AI
4. Resident Evil 5
It may be a little controversial to place this so high, but on reflection, the implementation of your AI assistant Shiva was seriously flawed to the point of almost unplayability. Unlike the majority of titles on this list too, the technology - although not wholly standardised at this point - was still readily available.
If you ask a fan of Resident Evil what the best entry into this foray is, chances are you'll likely receive the answer Resident Evil 4. If you ask them what they didn't like about that game, they'll probably inform you of the missions in which you had to oversee the president's daughter "Ashley", as she would follow you around for a good portion of the game. Getting herself killed a lot in the process.
Now, imagine that Capcom were aware of people's gripe from the previous instalment and with that knowledge they decide to build the entire concept of the subsequent entry around this problematic idea. Albeit an idea that now saw the secondary character wielding weapons. Ironically though, she didn't know how to use them and it shows. Shiva will blindly throw you green herbs when your health is full or near to the point, wasting ammo seems to be a hobby for her too but her biggest offence is when it comes to the set pieces that she clearly hasn't been programmed to undertake!
If you thought Ashely was game-breaking, then you should probably skip Resident Evil 5 altogether because unlike that game, it's not possible to hide Shiva in a large bin until everything blows over.
