10 Video Games With MASSIVE Potential (That Still Failed)
9. Lawbreakers
Lawbreakers certainly seemed like it was set up to be the next big thing in the multiplayer shooter space. From Boss Key Productions, the company founded by Gears of War designer Cliff Bleszinksi, the game launched in 2017 but quickly stumbled out of the gate. Despite having serious pedigree, a unique cast of characters, and a good dose of charm thanks in part to Rick and Morty’s Justin Roiland lending his voice to the game, one major issue is that it arrived in the space at the same time as Overwatch.
You know, that tiny little indie game nobody ever heard from again.
On top of that, the game had a high skill ceiling that put off more casual players, and there wasn’t good enough matchmaking to ensure players of the same skill level were finding matches together. While moving around the maps felt great, there were too many frustrating mechanics and systems keeping the experience from becoming all it could have been, not to mention its overall lack of polish compared to the other games it was competing with at the time.
The cringey marketing asking people if they’re “Skilled AF” probably didn’t help either.
