10 Video Games You Have To Punish Yourself To Play

4. Ninja Gaiden Black

Darkest Dungeon Red Hook Studios
Tecmo Games

While there is no precisely easy Ninja Gaiden, crowd consensus is usually that Ninja Gaiden Black is the hardest - and it's very hard to disagree with that, all things considered.

The game offers an easy mode - Ninja Dog - if you die too many times in one section, but even this is kind of a cruel prank of sorts. Because, despite being far easier than the regular modes of the game, you could still easily find it difficult - which might be especially aggravating if you chose it hoping to just get through the game.

Which isn't to suggest that Ninja Gaiden Black is only difficult if you're trying to create an easier experience. In order for the boss battles to not feel like you're repeatedly throwing yourself at an angry brick wall, you need to master most if not all of the weapons you can find in the game.

This might sound easy in theory, but most people tend to fixate on using one or two weapons in pretty much any game that gives them more options than that. Good luck defying your instincts during an already difficult boss fight!
