10 Video Games You Play For HOURS Before Starting

9. Heavy Rain

Quantic Dream

Given that Heavy Rain was marketed to revolve around protagonist Ethan Mars tracking down his son Shaun, who has been kidnapped by the Origami Killer, it's genuinely surprising just how damn long director David Cage takes to make this instigating event happen.

You can expect to wait close to two hours for Shaun to go missing and the game's true dramatic thrust to kick in, with masses of the preceding time devoted to detailing Ethan's tragic backstory and offering brief introductions to Heavy Rain's other playable characters.

Going through Ethan's daily routine at the very start of the game proves especially tedious, because controlling him as he takes a piss and brushes his teeth isn't exactly Quantic Dream at the peak of their powers.

Interest certainly picks up once Shaun is kidnapped, but getting there is a bit of a trek, enough that many surely skip the overbaked prologue on subsequent playthroughs.
