10 Video Games You Regretted Pre-Ordering

9. We Happy Few

Sometimes, there’s not really much wrong with a game, per se. It just doesn’t live up to fan expectations. Unfortunately, We Happy Few is one of these games.

Prior to release, many had been drawn in by this Bioshock-esque tale of a dystopian 1960s town trapped under the influence of ‘Joy’ drugs, making the residents perpetually happy and manipulable.

We Happy Few certainly delivered on these themes and story, with a striking aesthetic to boot. However, the game received significant criticism for gameplay mechanics, repetition of gameplay and environments, and technical issues at launch.

Some of the commercial disappointment can be attributed to overhype — if you are expecting a AAA polish on a game initially funded by a kickstarter campaign, you just aren’t going to get it.

But with the game’s price having been increased by double its original to £60 at release, it’s a pre-order that definitely wasn’t worth it, purely because you were asked to pay for a more expansive and better quality game than you actually ended up getting.
