10 Video Games You Regretted Pre-Ordering

8. Marvel's Avengers

With Spiderman being one of the PS4’s best titles, fans had been waiting years for Marvel to capitalise on the opportunity for an Avengers game. After all, when one of the most profitable media franchises in the world is based on superheroes beating up baddies, what could make for a better game?

Sadly, Marvel’s Avengers hit its first stumbling block when the game footage was first revealed, as many MCU fans were startled and put off by different actors and visual designs for such familiar characters.

The ‘what I ordered vs. what I got’ memes were rife, and strangely prophetic of the eventual launch, as Avengers was buggy as all hell upon release. There’s no better way to traumatise a young Captain America fan than have them watch his eyes pop out of his head mid-scene as they trudge through a bloated and unsatisfying campaign.

If that wasn’t enough to get fans crying, making your way into the multiplayer mode where a microtransaction-filled live service model immediately tacks itself onto the pre-existing £60 price tag would certainly tip the scales. For anyone who did buy into the multiplayer, player numbers quickly tanked, making the experience a frustrating one irregardless.

While the game has committed to its model, putting out a variety of expansions since launch, it’s no doubt that Marvel’s Avengers missed the mark — one which spiritual sequel Guardians Of The Galaxy thankfully did hit, allowing most of us to forget about its predecessor the same way we forgot about getting our money back.
