10 Video Games You Should Play On Hard Mode
1. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil 7 delivered a much needed return to form for the series, taking it back to its true survival horror roots with a first-person POV twist.
The game is certainly frightening, with the various members of Baker family chasing poor, faceless (and wife-less) Ethan Winters throughout the game’s runtime. But if you find yourself seeking an even greater rush than the base difficulty offers, then try the extra hard mode, ‘Madhouse’.
Madhouse calls back to the series’ history in more than just the base gameplay, as saving now requires in-game cassette tapes found throughout the game locations in limited capacity. Antique coin collectibles are similarly necessary to unlock key items and upgrades - meaning your ability to save and improve your progress is wholly dependent on your skill.
Enemies are also much stronger, appear in greater numbers, and earlier then they would in a typical playthrough, with some scripted encounters even being altered to terrorise you further.
As with all survival horror, Resident Evil 7 requires not just competency with combat, but heightened understanding of the world and mechanics to succeed. No difficulty showcases this better than Madhouse, making for a tactically focused and super scary run that provides a genuine sense of accomplishment when you finally escape the Baker house.
