10 Videogame Characters Who Were Strangely Allergic To Water

2. Spider-Man II

Spiderman Spider-Man II was a glorious game, and that most rare of things €“ an actually decent movie tie in. New York was your playground, and you could swing around it however you damn well wished. Rarely has a game captured what it is to actually be a character, but Spider-Man II pulled this off with aplomb. Then you were confronted with water, and you felt like an actual spider floundering in the bathtub. You may excuse this by saying that Spider-Man has a spider€™s powers, and spiders can€™t swim. Well I understand that, but Peter Parker isn€™t completely a spider. If he actually went through a Kafka-esque metamorphosis, half of this adventure would be spent at home helping Aunt May deal with some inevitable therapy for shock. He just has spider characteristics, such as sticky hands and the ability to splurge webs from his wrists. He can surely swim like regular folk. In fact, seeing as the final battle actually takes place on and under a bloody pier, you might argue that this is extremely important. But no, Spider-Man is next to useless when confronted with the Hudson estuary, and what makes matters worse is that the game goes out of its way to involve the water in your quests like some sort of sick joke. Seriously, hang too near the water and sinking boats become attracted to Spidey like flies to dung. He€™s terrible news for coastguards, and it leads to infuriating scenes when you keep overshooting the damn thing with a lack of anything else to grab onto. Of course, this is practically a stroll in the park compared to trying to get to Ellis Island. Seethe€
