10 VR Games That Revived Awesome Game Studios Back

7. Asgard's Wrath

Game Studio: Sanzaru Games

Sanzaru started off as a work-for-hire studio that handled ports, mostly for PlayStation systems. Then after remastering the Sly Cooper trilogy, they caught a break, as Sony allowed them to create a fourth entry in the franchise.

It resulted in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, a perfectly enjoyable sequel...that failed to gain an audience and flopped.

The dev quickly went back to thankless money jobs, before honing in on VR as a focus, with them specifically creating experiences for the Oculus Rift, but its been a bumpy ride.

Their first three collaborations: Ripcoil, VR Sports Challenge, and (the much-hyped) Marvel Powers United VR, all released to underwhelming reviews with (Oculus owner) Facebook, eventually removing all online store support for them within two years.

You'd think that would've spelled bad blood between the parties, however, Sanzaru turned the tide with Asgard's Wrath, a killer app for the Rift.

The game is a meaty and rich action epic with cutting-edge visuals and game design. It's no exaggeration that critics felt the game is pretty much the pinnacle of modern VR.

Asgard's success was so impressive, Facebook quickly bought Sanzaru, locking them down to make VR content exclusively for their platforms.
