Mobile game ads are a real exercise in cynicism for everyone involved. The majority of them are brazenly fake, showcasing elements not found in the game, or, often times, footage of something that isn't even what's being sold to you.

You know what I mean: The strangely prolific "pull the pins in the right order to get the guy across the screen to the treasure" genre - a genre that, for a long time, only existed in those fake trailers.

And the worst part is, we all know it. We know what we're seeing isn't actually the game at all. And they know we know it. How many people could there possibly be falling for these trailers, downloading a game that in no way resembles what they were expecting, and then, presumably, paying for more microtransactions?

Sadly, like most scams, when you think about it long enough the answer is obvious: Likely the elderly, or people otherwise uneducated in gaming as an industry. Not only are these false advertising, but they're predatory to boot.
