As video games have navigated their way to the top of the entertainment industry, platformers such as Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Crash Bandicoot have all have become some of the most popular titles going.

Every self-respecting gamer has completed at least one platformer in their life but, what most of these players don't realise is that there is actually a clever development trick going on behind the scenes helping to make things easier for them.

Named after the famous RoadRunner-chasing Looney Tunes character, who was often found defying gravity off the edge of a cliff, "Coyote Space" is a tool developers use to give players a more generous window when it comes to the space and time when making and landing a jump.

The feature is entirely invisible, and most gamers probably don't even acknowledge its existence, however, there's no denying the impact it has on saving their lives.

Games without Coyote Space were often criticised as being too hard and not fun back in the day, which led to more and more developers implementing it in their more popular releases to the point where it is an industry-staple to this day.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
