10 Ways Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Was Almost Completely Different

7. The Goddesses Were Initially Tied To The Master Sword Quest

Somewhat strangely, despite the in-game 'Legend of Zelda' spinning the tale that an ancient hero used the Master Sword to fell Ganon, you don't actually need it to beat the game, and instead, the blade is tucked away inside Korok Forest, which is itself inside the Lost Woods.

Interestingly, it appears retrieving the sword initially had something to do with the three Golden Goddesses of Hyrule's past (Din, Nayru and Farore) as their respective colours can be seen on the surrounding stones.

In the finished version, these coloured indentations are removed, and the Goddesses take the form of - or are being paid tribute by - three specific dragons that soar through the air at different times of the day, themselves fitting into a number of additional side quests.
