7. They Play Dozens Of MMORPGs You've Never Heard Of
In fact those free-to-play titles make up the bulk of the games released in China. It's the online titles which especially draw the dedicated players in, which is the market that Activision were hoping to tap into with their ill-fated Call Of Duty Online. In fact online gaming in China represents one of the largest and fastest growing internet business sectors in the world. Of 457 million internet users currently active in the People's Republic, two thirds play online games. And considering how difficult it is for Western titles to break through the censorship barrier, they must all either be playing the same thing, or be playing games that simply never make it out of China. Turns out it's a mix of the two. In fact most of the popular domestically developed online games like the Genesis Of The Century trilogy (The World of Legend, The Age, and Magical Land), Westward Journey, The Incorruptible Warrior, and Crazy Mouse are unheard of outside of China. Which is weird in a world where popular games are universal...unless you're in China.
