Uncharted 3 is Naughty Dog's exceptional third entry into their mega-successful Uncharted franchise. With a guaranteed hit game on their hands and Sony's full support, you'd think that Naughty Dog wouldn't need any third party assistance. As it turns out, not even million-dollar earning video game studios can't resist the lure of advertising dollars. A month before Uncharted 3's release, Naughty Dog teamed up with fast food chain, Subway, to promote the game. Subway customers who bought specific Uncharted 3 branded items got a code which allowed early access to the game's multiplayer mode. This deal was advertised through a series of cringe-worthy commercials that featured Nathan Drake holding a poorly CGI'd in Subway product whilst performing some death-defying escape. If that wasn't enough, the promotion extended to the actual multiplayer mode itself. In-game Subway related skins and items, such as hats, could be unlocked by collecting items gratuitously named 'Subway Treasures'. And just to show how generous the offer is, any unlocked Subway item could be carried over to the main game. Thankfully no Subway foot-longs made their way over to the game's single-player campaign. Exploring ruins with a meatball marinara wielding Nathan Drake would ruin the suspension of disbelief more than any Shambhala Guardian ever could.
My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem.
Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh.
You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
