10 Weirdest Product Placements In Video Games

7. Fight Night Round 3 €“ Have The Burger King In Your Corner

With boxing being such a sponsorship-heavy sport, it's understandable that this practice would trickle down to boxing video games in order to capture that sense of realism and capitalism. The way Fight Night Round 3 recreates this sponsorship thing makes real-life boxing advertising seem subtle. Any semblance of a boxing simulator is lost beneath the dozens of ads staring you in the face. It's one thing to have sporting brands, such as Everlast and Under Armour, in the game, but when EA slipped in sponsorship references by Dodge, everything started getting a bit out of hand. This was probably best characterised by the heinous inclusion of The Burger King as a trainer. That's right, a fast food chain mascot can be recruited into your corner to give you boxing tips and to spray water into your face. Hell, there's even an achievement to be earned for hiring The Burger King. There is a sort of silver-lining to all this commercialism. Having The Burger King as a trainer is so off-beat and over-the-top that the game (justifiably) won Gamespot's award for 'The Most Despicable Product Placement'.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
