10 Worst Multi-Phase Video Game Boss Battles

6. Kefka - Final Fantasy VI

Square Enix

To be totally fair, there are a lot of people who absolutely love Final Fantasy VI's climactic boss battle against Kefka, and will therefore defend it to their dying breath.

And though the battle is undeniably epic, it can also be an overpowering exercise in frustration, given that players need to best Kefka through four separate phases before the fight is over.

The deck is stacked right away, as Kefka will always cast Heartless Angel on his first turn, which immediately reduces every party member's HP down to 1.

Kefka will continue to throw hellacious attacks at the player throughout each phase which can effortlessly KO unprepared players.

Though Kefka is by no means the hardest Final Fantasy end-boss, the sheer abundance of phases, the length of the fight, and the speed with which it can all go horribly wrong for players who take their eye off the ball can make it a real pain.
