10 WORST Things About Popular Video Game Genres
8. Brainless A.I. - Stealth Games
The stealth genre can wield some of the most rewarding experiences in all of gaming.
Sneaking through the middle-eastern desert in The Phantom Pain or successfully avoiding the nightmarish creature in Alien: Isolation always conjures immense satisfaction. Each successful sneak often provokes more of a sense of achievement than blasting your way through corridors of baddies.
The potential for exciting moments is endless, it seems, but it dampens the fun somewhat when you realise that the enemy AI is totally oblivious to anything that isn't a machine gun rattling at point blank range.
Memory-deficient soldiers in Metal Gear Solid and Ellie-oblivious zombies in The Last Of Us detract (slightly) from the overall experience, and in some cases, it's the only significant blemish on a game's otherwise perfect resume.
Stealth should be a viable --even preferable-- gameplay technique in such titles, so knowing you could have reached the end of a level by waltzing through without the enemies really suspecting a thing is a real shame.
In truth, suppressors, silent footsteps and stealthy takedowns are far less impactful when the same result can be achieved with big bullets, bulky boots and bashing the attack button.
