4. Expensive Controllers For The "Best" Experience - Racing Games
As real-world racing returns to our screens, the simulation bug has infected many of us who were left waiting for the Formula 1 season to resume.
Video games, as was evident this past year, are a perfectly viable way for non-racers to feel like they're blasting through the streets of Monaco or tearing through the Styrian pines at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Anyone can be a Schumacher with the advancements of racing games, but with the distance in quality between regular gamepad and plug-and-play steering wheel, it's hard to enjoy games like Project Cars, Forza Motorsport and F1 2021 knowing that there is a far more comfortable --and expensive-- way to play.
A dedicated racing wheel is just the tip of the iceberg, as the need for an eye-wateringly expensive set-up to achieve truly great scores meant that most who only had a Dualshock were immediately on the back foot. Before you know it, that £50 game has now cost you over £700, 12ft of space in your living room and your marriage.
It's an over-exaggeration, sure, but there's no denying Racing games of today are prioritising simulation over frantic action, which is a price few of us can afford.
