Worst Offence: He’s become the thing he professes to despise – A monster.

Chris Redfield was always a cool guy. A bit laconic and all-American hero, but he was never completely annoying – until Resident Evil 5 arrived. That marked the moment when everyday elite cop transformed into steroidal soldier.

Tragically, those steroids had a detrimental effect on Redfield’s personality – by which we mean, it erased it altogether, and replaced it with a series of clichés and a side order of cheese. Sure, this guy can punch the living hell out of boulders now (a fine party trick), but he also stopped being anything like the character fans had grown to love over the years.

Not that he had much character even back in the day, but at least he looked and acted vaguely human. And he could go more than a minute without saying the sort of lines you’d expect to hear in an 80s action movie. And if you thought Redfield was bad…
