10 Worst Video Games Of 2024
2. Pneumata
Pneumata is a perfect example of a game that's all style and no substance. Though it has photorealistic graphics and delivers a creepy atmosphere akin to Silent Hill or Outlast, it's a complete mess, or more accurately, an incomplete mess.
Despite the deplorable enemy AI, Pneumata is unreasonably difficult, thanks to the inaccessible controls, ineffective weapons, plodding pace, and noticeable jank. With that in mind, players will find themselves repeatedly dying, not from a lack of skill but from the game's inadequacies.
Players are sure to find themselves going around in circles or getting cornered by enemies due to the labyrinth-like level design and lack of in-game maps. Even though Pneumata should have tense and pulse-racing gameplay, the sluggish frame-rate makes that unfeasible.
Not only is the voice-acting sup-bar, the sound quality is distractingly sporadic. The voice-actors can be unnecessarily screaming their lines one moment, then be almost inaudible the next.
Sadly, the survival horror's flaws become more apparent throughout the playthrough. The later sections are noticeably bare, almost like the creator ran out of time to complete them.
In its defence, the main reason why Pneumata failed to meet standards is because the entire project was put together by one person. But based on the end-result, it's obvious the developer shouldn't have done it alone.
