5. Psycho Mantis - Metal Gear Solid
Psycho Mantis is one of the greatest villains of all time because of the insanity of his boss battle. He was a powerful practitioner of psychokineses and telepathy and as such would read your memory card saves during the battle, whilst also being able to read every move you would make unless you moved your controller into the second port, making for a truly terrifying, and challenging, battle.
4. Kefka Palazzo - Final Fantasy VI
There is no better way to describe Kefka than to call him a complete psychopath. Arguably the most evil Final Fantasy antagonist ever, despite his clown-like appearance, Kefka destroyed towns, poisoned water supplies and had an extreme hatred for all human life, even managing to destroy the entire world mid-way through the game. Add to that his maniacal laugh and you have one of the greatest villains of all time.
3. Ganon - The Legend Of Zelda
Ganon, a boar-like demon, often disguised himself as a human, during which times he would adopt the name Ganondorf. He wished to destroy the world after taking control of the Triforce of Power, which made him an extremely vicious and dangerous villain, in both physical and magical respects. Ganon is the personification of evil and has kidnapped Princess Zelda on numerous occasions, leaving it up to Link to rescue her.
2. Pyramid Head - Silent Hill 2
Anyone who has played Silent Hill 2 will remember Pyramid Head, a hulking, terrifying creature wielding the Great knife, his signature weapon, and with what looks like a pyramid encasing his head. Pyramid Head can be seen sexually assaulting other monsters in the game, and is extremely powerful, with it later being revealed that he is actually a personification of James's desire to face retribution for killing his wife.
1. Sephiroth - Final Fantasy VII
Once the world's greatest soldier, Sephiroth was driven insane by the revelation that he was a product of scientific experiments carried out by Hojo, and not a survivor of the Ancients. Sephiroth wanted to become a God and be at one with the planet, controlling it to his end, willing to do whatever it takes to get there, including killing one of the game's central characters, Aerith. The FMV where Sephiroth walks through the flames of Nibelheim is one of the most iconic videogame scenes of all time, earning him this rightful position.
