100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil

53. Resident Evil Loves Aliens

If there's one movie franchise that Resident Evil loves most, it might well be Alien. Claire's relationship with Sherry in RE2 feels akin to Ellen Ripley's with Newt, and several monsters - such as the Plagas and the Verdugo - feel like they were clearly inspired by the Xenomorph. Resident Evil 2 Remake even features a chest-burster scene.

But Resident Evil 3 remake perhaps goes the hardest on it's love of cinema and, as a result, becomes a crazy mash-up of feeling like a Terminator movie stuffed with a bunch of Aliens references. There's a movie poster inspired by the franchise for "Skull Stalker: Adrift in Space". Tyrell dies in a fashion similar to Bishop in Aliens.

One fun one that's easy to miss shows up early. As Jill and Brad walk together after the former temporarily escapes Nemesis, they pass a "Coffee Shop Sigourney". If you're not convinced that that's a reference to Ripley's Sigourney Weaver, then the fact the café was established in 1979 - the same year that Alien released - should make it pretty clear.

On top of that, Mikhail Victor is expertly portrayed this time by William Hope aka Lieutennant Gorman in Aliens. Funnily enough, Gorman and Mikhail's deaths are very similar: self-sacrifice in the face of certain doom by explosion.
