11 Most Notorious Gaming Sequel Set-Ups That Never Followed Through
6. The Darkness II - Jackie Gets Banished To Hell
A few years after the events of the first game, Jackie Estacado has become a crime don, though tries hard to suppress his brutal supernatural powers known as The Darkness, while also keeping tortured memories of his dead love, Jenny Romano, at bay. Players are given a choice of two endings: stay with a vision of Jenny in the insane asylum, or attempt to enter Hell to rescue the real Jenny. If you pick the latter ending (the only one that really makes sense: why even give us the choice?), a post-credit scene plays out, where when Jenny and Jackie are reunited, Jenny is revealed to have become the new Angelus, the good, female component of The Darkness. The Angelus says that Jackie has become too powerful and destructive, so leaves him banished in Hell as the game ends. Obviously, this isn't the end of the story, and a third game is needed, in which Jackie escapes Hell and possibly tries to reconnect with or kill the Angelus. It's been over two years since the game came out, and we've not heard a peep about a sequel since, so don't count on it happening.
