7. Prototype 2 - "What Do We Do Now?"

Prototype 2 sees new protagonist James Heller joining the battle against the deadly Blacklight virus and bad guy Alex Mercer (the protagonist from the first game), who wants to infect the entire human race. In a final showdown, Heller defeats Mercer and absorbs him, while seemingly managing to wipe out the virus. Having access to Mercer's memories allows him to free Maya and Dana, and as the two reflect on what has happened, Dana asks, "What do we do now?". This is a more open-ended conclusion than most of the games on this list so far: it simply implies that Heller's story is not yet finished, and even if a new protagonist were again chosen for Prototype 3, it's likely that Heller would be deeply involved in it. There's also the fact that many believe that given how Mercer was absorbed by Heller, that perhaps he isn't completely gone, and he may resurface within Heller in the future. Seeing the two fighting for control would make for an interesting mechanic in a third game, though two years on, we've heard nothing about it.
