11 Powerful Video Game Opening Sequences That Gave You Chills

1. The Solid Snake Reveal - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty

In a genius move reminiscent of something only creator Hideo Kojima can pull off, if on the main menu for MGS 2 you selected "This is my first Metal Gear!", you actually completely skipped the introductory sequence with Solid Snake and the tanker. The assumption must have been that new players would only be interested in Raiden, but as his framing in the story is looking up to Snake with wide eyes of adoration, it mimics that of any newcomer, too.

That said, the more widespread intro to the game starts with a raincoat-wearing Snake walking slowly on a rainswept bridge, only to flick his hood off and optical camouflage on, further obscuring and hiding his identity to the player.

It's only when this figure flips down off the bridge, latches a pully cable onto the tanker below and elegantly flips down into a crouched position (read: Superhero landing) that the rain interferes with the camouflage and in a blur of electric shards and sci-fi sound effects, the music swells and Solid Snake is finally revealed.

Perfect.
