11 Things Microsoft Wants You To Forget About The Xbox One
9. That Original TV Pitch
It was a strange thing during the reveal when Yusef Metti got up on stage and remarked that watching TV is something that has become a problem, due to "the need to change inputs" to get there. Instead we were now going to change channels with... our voices. The silence worldwide was deafening. Seriously, was there anyone sitting watching who simultaneously leapt out of their chairs to high-five the screen at such a comment? It was such a strange thing to focus on - especially as a selling point - that many of us instantly put Microsoft on the back foot. Changing inputs on a TV is - and surely always will be - as easy as at most, a handful of button presses. It didn't help that only a few moments prior what we'd seen was a motion-controlled demo where somehow the idea that gesturing with our hands to open a program was faster or easier than just hitting a button. Surely if voice-controlled television was the way forward we'd have seen the major TV companies integrate that into their units many years ago, rather than this attempt to solve a problem that didn't exist in the first place.
