11 Things We Learned From Tokyo Game Show 2016
9. Horizon: Zero Dawn Showcases Dialogue Trees, Loot & Many More RPG Aspects
As is expected when showcasing a game to the masses, action always sells way more than slow-paced stat-tracking.
However, now that Horizon: Zero Dawn has been a mainstay at Sony's conferences and game exhibitions overall for over a year, it's about time we saw some minute-to-minute gameplay - especially where it's much-touted RPG mechanics are concerned.
To that end, TGS 2016 had developers Guerrilla showcasing things like taking quests from random villagers, upgrading weapons by using loot scavenged from enemies in the world, even opening up an extensive appearance customiser that lets you buff armour and your appearance.
Horizon marks the first new IP Guerrilla have crafted since being shackled to Killzone from 2004. It's about as far away as you can get from the array of dreary, grey and brown smudges that represent that franchise, and looks to be all the better for it.
