11 Unexpected Video Game Jump Scares That Scarred You For Life

10. Dark Souls' First Mimic

For the first half of Dark Souls - and we're talking tens of hours here - you're constantly given chests that hold key items as a reward for your hard work, giving you enough of a confidence boost to carry you through to the next impossible encounter.

And after you've opened potentially hundreds of these chests already, you don't think twice about automatically prying open every other one you see. But you should, because seven of the chests are actually Mimics posing as a harmless object, ready to grab and eat you the moment you go to open them.

The thing is, while there's one to find earlier in Sen's Fortress, you probably won't even know this enemy exists until you hit Anor Londo about halfway through. And even then, the only feature that distinguishes these monsters from actual chests is the chain that runs down the side of it - something you definitely won't notice when you go to open your first one.
