Considering Microsoft's exclusive releases aren't really that much to shout about anymore, you'd be forgiven if Gears of War's latest instalment getting announced managed to give you the slip. Or if you didn't care at all, since Gears of War 4 in 2016 marked a definite dip in quality compared to the earlier trilogy. Either way, number 5 is coming, and it's actually looking pretty solid.
One of the highs for multiplayer game play back in the day, Gears of War 5 will be capitalising on its past by bringing back the online world we know and love, as well as some classic split-screen after listening to what fans ACTUALLY want from their multiplayer offerings.
Coupled with a solo campaign that follows a new outsider character - Kait Diaz - as she reconciles us with old series favourites like JD and Marcus Fenix, the story sees Diaz discover her family ties to the Locust Horde. With all that on the table for a 2019 release promised in its trailer, GoW5 looks set to be a title to take notice of in the coming months.
