11 Video Games That Will Define The Current Generation

4. The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Nintendo

The first game released for the Nintendo Switch may also still be its biggest - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of two games for the system already being called 'The Best Game of All-Time', and for good reason. The game has redefined the open-world genre.

The genre has been stale for a little while now - particularly in this generation, where the consoles are powerful enough to create enthralling, massive worlds, it feels like almost everyone is trying their hand at it. The idea of the genre is to give the player a sense of freedom - how ironic then, that Nintendo's first real foray into open-world games would prove just how restrictive everyone else was being. With the ability to climb almost any surface and para-glide across the world, Nintendo created the ultimate interactive playground.

Breath of the Wild is sprawling and vast, with a limitless amount of things to do and discoveries to behold. Exploration in gaming has never been better (except perhaps, for a game later on in this list) and The Legend of Zelda stepped up to rewrite the formula of one of gaming's most popular genres.
