11 Ways Monolith Should Have Made Shadow Of War
5. Figure Out A Better Control Scheme
While Shadow of War's combat has its problems, the issues are exacerbated by the game's fiddly control scheme. With too many functions occupying too few buttons, often you'll find yourself wanting to do one thing in the heat of battle and end up doing another, potentially costing you your life in the process.
Double tapping X/A allows you to roll out the way of danger during fights, but the same buttons are also used to leap over enemies to avoid their incoming attacks. The two moves are functionally identical and for the most part accomplish the same thing, but it becomes a problem if you're fighting an orc with a vault-breaker perk that counters you if you try to jump over him.
Consequently, trying to doge away from danger could end up putting you directly in its path, resulting in a cheap hit and a frustrated player.
It's a small niggle in itself, but it's reflective of the larger problems surrounding Shadow of War's insistence on making accomplishing basic things more difficult than it should be.
