Bear with me here for a minute: I know The Rock may not be the actor many people envision when they think of Gears of War's hulking protagonist, but allow me to explain. It's evident from digging around online that a vocal chorus of gamers feel that John Travolta would be a great choice for Marcus Fenix, though personally I just can't see it: the shape of his face may be the same, but a) the guy is far, far too old to play the part these days and b) his voice sounds nothing like Marcus Fenix. Another popular choice I've read about a lot is WWE's Batista, but while he fits the physical requirements of the role, I think we can do better than that. Dwayne Johnson is box office dynamite right now, and has earned a reputation as "franchise viagra", meaning that his charismatic performances can give seemingly any ailing action franchise a boost. He may not physically resemble video game Fenix a whole lot, but I can totally see him filling out the Gears suit to perfection, and his deep, booming voice will make him a natural fit for this type of character. Much like Urban, hopefully his work on Doom didn't make him swear video game adaptations off forever more.
