12 Biggest Secrets In All Super Mario Games

7. Old-School Mario (Super Mario RPG)

Super Mario RPG was the iconic plumber's first foray into the role-playing genre, and his last outing on the SNES, the platform that shot him to superstardom. The game was made by Final Fantasy devs and RPG maestros Square, and was packed with Easter Eggs and references to other games in the series - the best of which temporarily transformed the game's isometric Mario into the original 2D Mario. How to unlock it: In Booster Tower, you'll come across a small corridor area at the top of some stairs with a pillar and two curtains. Walk behind the pillar/through the curtains, and Mario will emerge as his original 2D self, accompanied by that iconic Mario beat we all know and love. There's a time limit on how long you can stay in this form, and the music will speed up to let you know when time is running out. Enjoy this moment while it lasts, because you can only do it once in the game.
