12 Bizarre Japanese Video Games You Won’t Believe Exist
6. Katamari Damacy (PlayStation 2)
Like the last entry on this list, Katamari Damacy proves that weirdness and brilliance can go hand in hand. You control a prince with a cylinder for a head who wants to rebuild the cosmos using a sticky ball called a Katamari. You do this by just rolling the ball over every object you can possibly find, thereby sticking it to your Katamari and helping it grow bigger and bigger. Early levels see you scooping up small things like drawing pins, while in later levels you're scooping up entire cities. It's actually pretty therapeutic, kind of like using a really good quality lint roller on a woollen coat. The unique gameplay has helped Katamari garner something of a cult following, though its offbeat nature also probably contributed to it not selling very well nor hitting its sales targets.
