12 Classic Things Most Modern Video Games Are Missing

4. General Simplicity

It might sound like an old man complaint, but wasn't gaming kinda more fun when it was so much simpler? You never had to deal with patches, DLC, system requirements and so on: for most players in the 1980s and early 90s, it took about 3 button presses to get the game started, and the mechanics were clearly defined from the outset (in most cases). Though it's difficult to argue with the technical innovation of contemporary gaming in terms of the literal production quality, it was just easier to pick and play older games, whereas nowadays you put the disc in, install the game, have to wait for a day-one update to download and install, and some games might even require you to stay permanently connected. Oh, and if you want to play multiplayer, you might need a paid-up Xbox Live or PSN subscription, too. For all of the greatness that modern gaming has brought us, it can at its worst reek of busy-work, when classic games can be enjoyed by a wider user base simply because they're so easy to engage with.
