12 Most Epic Character Introductions In Gaming History

2. Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty)

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty may well have been a collective kick in the gonads for most MGS fans, but it at least started in fantastic fashion, with the Solid Snake-starring Tanker portion of the game. It had to do something really special to top the excellent insertion sequence of the previous game, but that it certainly did. After a riveting and super-professional opening credits sequence worthy of any Hollywood movie, the scene opens on the George Washington Bridge in New York City. We see brief flashes of a character decked out in a trenchcoat, but we recognise what he's wearing underneath...as he activates his stealth camo, sheds the trenchcoat, and begins running along the bridge. He performs an acrobatic, slow-motion dive off the bridge, landing on the tanker as the Solid Snake we know and love is revealed, with those glorious PS2 graphics. We cut to a rather ominous shot of Revolver Ocelot watching the whole thing from a helicopter, stating, "Our boy is right on schedule...he'll know soon enough", and with the scene set, we get our title shot, and the game begins. It was completely gutting that Snake was only a playable character in MGS2 for a very short time, but he got one of the finest entrances in video game history.
