12. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

When you've got a character like Mario in your armoury, you've simply got to squeeze every bit of greatness out of him. But saying that, major 3D Mario games needed to be thought-out, planned to perfection and executed on rare occasions to ensure they remained special. That's not to say Nintendo neglected spin off games in the slightest, with Paper Mario being a stellar example. The Thousand Year Door was a gorgeous game that lay somewhere between side-scroller and 3D. It was a refreshing change to other Mario titles, and yet again, Nintendo certainly did not fail to deliver on their promise of a great, fun game.
