12 Greatest Real Time Strategy Video Games Of All Time
12. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War
Relic's 2004 RTS game set in the universe of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40k game for the first time gave fans of the tabletop war-game an incredible PC title to play. Dawn Of War meant that a player could amass a gigantic army in either the Space Marine, Chaos Space Marine, Ork or Eldar factions without spending all the money on the tabletop game's extortionately priced models. Indeed, a Land Raider tank which you can obtain in the game for a handful of resources would set you back £45 in the store... Dawn of War is by no means just a way for fans of the tabletop game to save (a lot of) money. The game is a superb RTS game in its own right which rightfully appealed to both fans and newcomers to the 40k universe. Rather than having you mine for the game's resources with workers, you are tasked with controlling strategic points dotted around the map to ensure a steady supply of resources. This innovative style encourages conflict at all stages of the game as you are forced to leave the comfort of your base to establish a powerful economy from the off. As well as this excellent gameplay innovation on the traditional mining system, Dawn of War has a gripping single player campaign, suitably grizzly visuals and a competitive multiplayer community.
