12 Harsh Truths You Don't Want To Admit About Video Games

3. Rip-Off DLC Only Exists Because People Actually Buy It

dlc-game-3 If rip-off DLC exists, it's because, believe it or not, somebody is dumb (or rich) enough to buy it. The overpriced horse armour in Oblivion and the £120 car in Gran Turismo 6 have been purchased by at least enough people to justify charging that price, and though most of us vote with our wallets and opt not to buy, there are clearly still enough people buying them for this sort of thing to persist. Still, these are just gimmicky add-ons that aren't going to be missed by anyone: what about the pricey Call of Duty map packs? Even relatively sensible people fork out over the odds for map packs and season passes which usually equate to maps costing around £3-4 each. Is that good value for money? Not in our book. Sadly, with its massive fanbase, CoD is always going to have people prepared to pay money for this, though if we really want to see prices drop across the board, we need to be less eager to part with our cash for something that's really not worth it.
