12 Most Hotly Anticipated Original Gaming Properties Of 2014

It's not all sequels and remakes in this year's gaming market.

Who says originality is dead? Sure, recently at WhatCulture.com we drooled all over the mountainous piles of sequels that will be hitting store shelves over the course of 2014, but the industry's creative impulses aren't quite as dead as you might imagine looking through that particular run-down. Truthfully, sequels do still outnumber the amount of original ideas out there, but there's an old saying that goes "quality over quantity," which couldn't be any more pertinent when it comes to the new IP's set to release in 2014. In fact, some of the biggest exclusive titles coming to current generation consoles are completely brand-new ideas like The Order: 1886 and Titanfall. (Yes, Titanfall will be available on Xbox 360 too, but realistically it will be a watered down version, similar to the Battlefield 4 fiasco, but then, we can live in hope.) First up, a pair of honourable mentions - in this case, games that didn't make the cut not because they looked inferior to the other games on the list, but because we really haven't got a clue what they are yet, so limited is the detail on them.

Honourable Mention 1 - D4

This downloadable Xbox One exclusive should be on radars for one reason; it's brought to you by Swery 65, the man that bestowed upon us the most bizarre murder mystery ever seen in gaming with Deadly Premonition. The game featured a schizophrenic detective talking to himself about terrible B-movie films as players drove around town, interrogating the small town's equally idiosyncratic residents, and more. It's essentially Twin Peaks: The Game, and though no one knows what madness Swery 65 will conjure up next, if the E3 teaser is anything to go by, it looks like another murder mystery.

Honorable Mention 2 - Sunset Overdrive

Insomniac Games have been releasing some incredibly disappointing duds lately (Fuse, horrible Ratchet and Clank spin-offs) but with Sunset Overdrive, they seem to be going back to their roots and focusing on creating wacky weapons in a cartoonish environment. Hopefully it is good because quite frankly, they need to get back on track, and they need to do it quickly. And now, on with the full list...
