5. Shadow Of The Colossus The First Kill
Maybe the shortest lived happy-time in gaming history. You jump on Agro and take off towards the horizon in search of giant monsters that, in death, will bring the hot chick on the stone table back to life. You find the first one, and ride beside it. You climb its skyscraper stature; it tries to swing you off, but you hang on to its mossy-hide, your fingers losing grip as it bellows and swings but... you manage to pull your way to its head. You then stand atop it, the world below nothing more than smudges of green and brown, and with a final plunge of your sword you fell the beast. Good times. It's only when you ride away that you realise the beast was only living its life, minding its own business, and is now dead at your hand for no other reason than because a ghostly voice told you to go a'murdering.
4. Tomb Raider The T-Rex Encounter
Up until the very first Tomb Raider on PSX, I'd had to get my dinosaur fix from playing substandard Jurassic Park games on the Sega Mega Drive. Then, in 1996, came Tomb Raider, and the thing that made me so happy about the arrival of the T-Rex in The Lost World level of this seminal game? I didn't expect it. Looking back I guess you could say that the raptors running around all over the place were a bit of a giveaway, but what can I say. I was young, wide-eyed, and... Holy sh*t, dad, look, a T-REX!
